Dianaprijs awarded to Farcast

Eelco Blok, member of the KPN Board of Management and chairman of the Dianaprijs jury, has presented the Dianaprijs 2007 to the Farcast team.
The Dianaprijs is a prestigious prize that is awarded every two years to researchers at TNO Information and Communication Technology whose work has made a distinguished contribution with regard to innovation, applicability and scientific value

In the opinion of the jury, Farcast was ahead of all the other entrants in terms of the criteria of innovativeness, applicability and scientific value. Farcast, developed by Berco Beute, Erik van Essen and Robert Westers, is a timely, appropriate and innovative response to developments in the market. The jury judged Farcast to be an innovative, state-of-the-art product that is well thought-out. It is also a valuable complementary technology for mobile TV. Farcast is an important technological innovation with wide-ranging applications, and has already won many customers.

The jury members were Eelco Blok (jury chairman, KPN Board of Management), Tini Colijn (TNO Board of Management), Sylvia Roelofs (Managing Director of sectoral organisation ICT~Office) and Tammo Bijmolt (Professor of Marketing Research, University of Groningen).

Farcast by TNO is a 'content repurposing' platform. It provides services that enable producers as well as consumers to create, exchange and publish multimedia content, wherever and whenever they choose, using any format, protocol or device. Farcast enables content producers, journalists and telecom operators to provide multimedia applications for fixed and mobile devices. The Farcast platform also incorporates other functionalities, including security, transcoding, application distribution and user management.
