TNO - Knowledge for business

Energy(management)

The response to the energy question by Dutch society will become more pronounced in decades to come. Growing demand for energy will result in the need for new, more intensive methods for locating raw materials, and innovative techniques for effectively dealing with new energy sources.

At the same time, increasing demand at all levels of society will lead to the need for further measures to boost efficiency and for solutions to related environmental matters, such as the carbon dioxide issue.

New methods

TNO is making significant contributions to research into solutions to the energy problem. Those contributions are especially focussed on new methods for extracting minerals, energy use in the built-up environment, new energy sources for mobility, energy efficiency in industry, climate change, CO2 storage and the development of new heating sources. TNO's focus is on developing a combination of fundamental technological knowledge and an approach to change that provide a vital contribution to the inevitable, far-reaching societal change processes.

Research programmes

TNO is active in two energy management research programmes:

  • Oil & gas exploration and production, and sustainable energy, including geo-energy
  • Energy use in the built-up environment
  • Programs for the research theme Energy(management)
