PreScan

With the introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), cars are becoming increasingly smarter. Sensors enable them to ‘see’ danger before it happens, so that the appropriate action can be taken. But what should the sensors observe? How should algorithms translate the observations into actions? And what traffic scenarios should be used to evaluate your new intelligent system? PreScan is a software package that provides the answers.

PreScan is a software tool designed as a development environment for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Intelligent Vehicle (IV) systems. These are systems with sensors that monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and that use the acquired information to take action. Such actions may range from warning the driver of a potentially dangerous situation to actively evading hazards by means of automatic braking or automatic steering.

Given a specific accident scenario, it is easy to discover the cause of the accident as well as which driver support system concept could have prevented it. By changing the weather and light conditions, or by adding disturbances such as sensor noise and sensor drift, the system’s robustness can be checked. By subjecting the intelligent system to other traffic scenarios, its side-effects become clear… or maybe you discover an alternative design that performs even better!

PreScan’s application areas

  • ADAS concept studies: Test a new idea within minutes.
  • Benchmarking sensors: Recreate sensors from different suppliers and subject each sensor to a standardized set of scenarios.
  • Algorithm development: Implement and evaluate algorithms for sensor data processing, sensor fusion and control.
  • Robustness validation and sensitivity analysis: See how your system reacts when circumstances change or disturbances are introduced.
  • Preparing road tests: Select the set of scenarios that should still be performed on the road.
  • Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP): Convert Simulink algorithms into executable c-code that can be run in a real vehicle.
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation: Test whether your intelligent vehicle system’s ECU works correctly by subjecting it to PreScan scenarios.
