TNO Powertrains is presenting at the WCX18 SAE World Congress Experience

Cobo Center | Detroit, Michigan, USA • 10 Apr 2018 - 13 Apr 2018

Come and meet TNO at this SAE congress
TNO research on Powertrains, as part of the Sustainable Mobility Program, will be showcasing the Dutch knowledge and expertise in the field of new developments in exhaust emissions control and dual fuel combustion. TNO looks forward to speaking with industry experts in these areas and would like to reach out and schedule face to face meetings in advance. Please contact Jack Bloem.

TNO as regular participant at the SAE, with numerous high level publications, will attend here and invites you to join:

1) our sessions, in which TNO will present the following papers

  • On Tuesday, April 10, 2:00 PM, (Session Code: PFL410)
Towards ultra-low NOx emissions within GHG phase 2 constraints: main challenges and technology directions Exhaust Emissions Control - New Developments (Part 2 of 2).
TNO presents an overview of the main challenges and key aspects regarding meeting ultra-low NOx requirements within the constraints on CO2 and N2O set by GHG phase 2 regulations. The study is based on simulation results from validated control-oriented models of current and future engine and aftertreatment technologies.
    Preview and paper download.
  • On Tuesday, April 10, 2:00 PM, (Session Code: PFL260)
Variable valve actuation strategies for better efficiency, load range, and thermal management in an RCCI engine Dual Fuel Combustion (Part 2 of 4).
TNO presents three VVA measures to increase load range, improve combustion efficiency, and perform thermal management for a Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition concept. Simulation results are used to demonstrate the potential of these VVA measures for a heavy-duty engine running on natural gas and diesel.
    Preview and paper download.
  • On Wednesday, April 11, 9:00 AM (Session Code: PFL260)
Towards model-based control of RCCI-CDF mode-switching in dual fuel engines Dual Fuel Combustion (Part 3 of 4).
TNO presents a model-based development approach for a dual-fuel mode-switching controller. Simulation results demonstrate the potential of this controller for a heavy-duty engine running on natural gas and diesel. It is shown that it is possible to switch between RCCI and CDF while maintaining the same set-points.
    Preview and paper download.

2) Meet our SimCAT, and RCCI experts live

3) Join our One-day, free-of-charge SimCAT workshop April 9th

TNO organizes a one-day, free-of-charge workshop on the topic of Modelling & Control of Diesel Aftertreatment Systems. It will be held just prior to the SAE at April 9th, 2018 in Detroit. For more information and registration click here.

TNO and technology related to powertrain, propulsion, emission, safety and electronics

Over the past 30 years, TNO has proven to be a valuable research, development and knowledge partner, with unique expertise, tools and research facilities for many automotive OEMs and TIER1 suppliers in the world. TNO Powertrains has an international position in Emission Control and Dual Fuel combustion concepts. TNO provides a model-based toolchain, which integrates testing, modelling and control calibration.

With a background in testing & homologation, TNO has developed automotive application expertise in physics based modelling, model based simulation and advanced control applications. TNO uses her unique expertise to develop future-proof system and software architectures, (faster than) real-time simulation methods and tools and fully functional control algorithms, using the automotive hardware (platforms) of our customers.
