We focus on ten societal areas.
TNO cooperates with companies, the public sector and other organisations, to apply our knowledge and expertise with and for others.
We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application.
TNO offers you the chance to do groundbreaking work and help customers and society with innovative, practical and smart solutions.
On TNO Insights you can read in-depth interviews and articles. Get inspired by TNO’s innovations!
The main theme is ‘Integrated Industry - Connect & Collaborate’ and it will present the technological innovations of tomorrow. The five trade fairs Integrated Automation, Motion & Drives (IAMD), Digital Factory, Energy, Industrial Supply and Research & Technology provide a comprehensive picture of the digitalisation of production and energy systems.
Hannover Messe is the world’s most important industrial fair and is often the first choice of companies for launching new products. This year more than 5,000 exhibitors from all over the world will be present. The purpose of the Holland Pavilion is to position the Netherlands internationally, to make contacts and to expand the network.
TNO will be at booth D34 to present some of its latest innovations in the field of Smart Industry and Optics. With the theme of “The Dutch art of photonics”, TNO will demonstrate along with partners TU Delft, Avantes and Ocean Optics the products in which spectroscopy plays an important role.
Smart Industry stands for far-reaching digitalisation, the linking together of products, machines and people and the use of new production technology. This offers many opportunities for existing and new companies in all sectors and is good for the competitive position of the Netherlands worldwide.
By optimising production using ICT and new production technologies such as 3D printing, production becomes more efficient, cheaper and of higher quality. Smarter machines, robots and other parts of the production process communicate and work together optimally, not only within individual companies but also between different companies in the value chain through cooperation.
Smart Industry enables the creation of new business from large and diverse information flows based on new, partly interacting technologies such as big data processing, the Internet of Things, new generation of adaptive robots, 3D printing, nanotechnology and miniaturisation, and new sensor technology.
The Netherlands has everything in house to make Smart Industry a success. We have a strong industrial base of both large enterprises and SMEs. We have an excellent ICT infrastructure, good logistics, a well-trained workforce and cooperation is in our DNA. The development of new initiatives is therefore encouraged by setting up regional field labs in which companies, educational and knowledge institutions work together.
2019 Hannover Messe Demonstrator: interoperability of machines in a line and companies in a chain.
In this edition of the Hannover Messe we will pay special attention to interoperability, i.e. the fast and safe cooperation of machines in a factory and companies in a supply chain.
For this purpose, a link is made via the standards of the Dutch Smart Connected Supplier Network and the German Industrial Data Space to the largest German flexible manufacturing field lab: the Smart Factory Kaiserslautern.
