Dutch Optics Centre consists of TU Delft, TNO and a large number of companies engaged in the development and / or manufacturing of high-tech optical and opto-mechanical products and tools such as satellites, telescopes, microscopes and measuring instruments. The centre builds on the strong position of optics and opto-mechatronics in the Netherlands, both scientifically and industrially. Thanks to pioneers like Huygens and Van Leeuwenhoek Netherlands has had a strong scientific position in this field for centuries.
The center will focus on developing new products in small consortia. To that end unique research and production facilities are shared and scientific talent is recruited and trained. In addition, the partners intend to start joint research program and joint promotion of the Dutch Optical science and industry abroad.
The launch of Dutch Optics Centre consisted of two workshops on applied science for medical optical sensors and optical detection of pollution by small particles in the semiconductor industry. In addition, Gerard van den Eijkel and Arnoud de Kuijper of the industrial enterprises Focal and Averna presented their views on the cooperation in Dutch Optics Centre. Also Luuk Klomp of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Prof. Dr. Paul Urbach, head of the Optics Research Group of TU Delft shared their ambitions in this cooperation. Finally, there was the official launch by the signing of the cooperation agreement by Prof. dr. Ir. Jos Keurentjes, CTO of TNO and Prof. dr. Karel Luyben of the Executive Board of TU Delft.
