STORM Eindhoven starts an 80-day World Tour supported by TNO

23 Aug 2016

STORM is a team of high-potential students at TU/e. They succeeded in their mission to create the first electrical touring motorcycle in the world by making it comfortable, easy to use and let it ride further than any electric motorcycle has gone before.
Martijn Stamm, Research Manager TNO

The student team envisions that the key to convincing the world that sustainable transportation is the way to go, is to let them experience it up close. Therefore, on the 14th of August 2016, the team started their race around the world in 80 days, charging only by making use of the existing electricity grid, provided by its supporters.

TNO supports STORM with battery management technology and battery modelling facilities. The TNO State of Charge Algorithm (SoC) for optimal determination of remaining energy in the battery is implemented on the final version of the STORM motorcycle. Next to that the students of the team have used the Powertrain Test Centre (PTC) in Helmond under supervision of TNO expert Erik Hoedemaekers. Furthermore, TNO is sponsoring one of their battery cartridges of which we will be able to track the usage. After the tour the battery state information will be shared with TNO for reference and validation.

After a spectacular unveiling of the final version on the 14th of July 2016, STORM has kicked-off their race around the world.
