Maarten Tossings is TNO’s new Chief Operating Officer

15 Mar 2019

M.G.L.H. (Maarten) Tossings has been nominated by the Minister of Defence for appointment by Royal Decree as Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Executive Board of TNO. He will also become Chairman of the Defence Research Council (RDO). Maarten will start on 15 March 2019, succeeding Wim Nagtegaal, who has held this position since February 2014.

Maarten Tossings has had a successful career with the Royal Netherlands Navy for many years, both in operational and policy-related positions. His last position, which carried the rank of rear admiral, was Managing Director of Operations and Chief Information Officer at the Ministry of Defence.

Paul de Krom, CEO of TNO: "Maarten Tossings is no stranger to TNO. He was previously a member of the Defence Research Council (RDO) and a member of the TNO Strategic Advisory Council on Defence & Security. In 2017, he participated in the committee that carried out the Knowledge Position Audit of the TNO ICT cluster, and he has supervised various national and international research programmes at TNO. In short: we know him as a skilled executive with broad experience in managing business and complex issues. We are pleased he is coming to TNO and look forward to good cooperation within the Executive Board and the entire TNO organisation."

Maarten Tossings: "TNO is a wonderful organisation with a broad societal mission. I think it is fantastic that I can help shape this. Besides meeting again with many old acquaintances in the defence part, I look forward to getting to know the other parts of TNO. I'm really looking forward to it."
