Francesco Dalla Longa

Functie:
Senior Scientist Energy and Materials Transition

My research focuses on developing and deploying data-driven tools and methodologies to study the energy transition from a quantitative perspective.

Research Area

As a senior researcher at TNO Energy and Materials Transition, I work on various aspects of the energy transition, ranging from climate change and technological innovation to energy access and energy poverty. I study these topics at different spatial and temporal scales, using a wide range of quantitative techniques, such as energy-system optimization modelling, big-data analytics and machine learning. I developed the first comprehensive, spatially resolved quantitative assessment of energy poverty in the Netherlands, which led to the establishment of the Dutch national energy poverty monitor. I contributed to the design, development and application of several energy models, e.g. the global integrated assessment model TIAM-ECN, the European energy system model TIMES-Europe and the national model of the Dutch energy system OPERA. I hold a  MSc in Physics from the University of Padova (Italy) and a PhD in Applied Physics from the Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands).
