Working at TNO Defence, Safety & Security

Within the Defence, Safety & Security unit of TNO, we are looking for recently university of technology graduates, PhD students and/or candidates with a maximum of 8 years of work experience. The Radar Technology, Electronic Defence and Military Operations departments are currently growing strongly due to with additional assignments that TNO will start up in the short term for the Police, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Justice and Security. This has generated very challenging jobs within the aforementioned departments.

So what is it that these three departments do?

Radar Technology

The Radar Technology department is a leading R&D partner in Europe and develops concepts and architectures on behalf of industrial partners (including prominent multinationals!) and the government (e.g. the Ministry of Defence). Within this department, experts from different disciplines come together to design future RF sensor suites for various applications, including radar, communication, navigation and ESM systems.

Military Operations

The Military Operations department carries out multidisciplinary projects to analyse problems of a strategic, operational, tactical and logistical nature. The department focuses primarily on military applications to bring structure to complex problems and to provide insight into the consequences of different alternatives. In addition, employees solve logistical problems and provide insight into the expected costs of equipment. The department also offers support during the planning, execution, analysis and evaluation of operations on land, at sea and in the air, for example by supporting (inter)national defence exercises.

Electronic Defence

Employees conducting applied research in the Electronic Defence department use electromagnetic signals to collect information about adversaries, to mislead them or to neutralise their resources. The department consists of a varied team of about 35 highly educated electrical engineers, physicists and mathematicians. The research of this department is mainly carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Justice and Security. In doing this, we work together with other departments within TNO, with international laboratories and industry in multidisciplinary projects, scientific panels and/or NATO working groups.
