What will you be doing?
As a Business Developer, you identify the needs of the maritime and offshore market, and develop projects and programmes in the field of underwater noise and ship-related acoustics together with (inter)national companies, government authorities and knowledge institutes. You are responsible for the entire business development process, from initiation to concluding the contract. As part of this, you work closely alongside TNO experts from the Acoustics & Sonar group.
What do we require of you?
You are an enthusiastic professional who combines specialist knowledge with commercial experience. You are also creative, a team player, and have an enterprising attitude. Because we work a lot together with international parties, you will travel abroad every now and then. Other requirements are:
- You are a science graduate, with at least 10 years’ work experience, of which at least the past five years have been spent working in the maritime sector, preferably in the field of underwater noise.
- You have demonstrable international commercial experience and speak and write English fluently.
- You can understand (complex) technical problems in a relatively short space of time and can find solutions for these at TNO or working together with external parties.
- You can work together with several parties to initiate and develop programmes in the field of underwater noise.
What can you expect of your work situation?
At TNO, we advise government authorities and the business community on noise levels and the effects thereof on maritime life as a result of underwater noise caused by such things as air guns used in seismic studies, pile-driving wind turbine foundations, explosions underwater and ships. We support companies with the development of quieter solutions and we link our sound models to so-called animals models to be able to illustrate the possible disruption to maritime life caused by underwater noise. It goes without saying that we work on this together with external experts in the fields of biology and ecology in a tight-knit international setting. The driving force being this study is the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive, which makes it mandatory for every EU member state to draw up a marine strategy focused on the preservation and repair of the marine environment, i.e. ensuring a good environmental condition. Sound is a crucial part of that, as marine life uses sound for orientation, to find food and to detect possible dangers.
Noise control is also very important for increasing the comfort of passengers and crew, and reducing disruption to the environment, both above and under the water. After all, the shipping industry has to meet increasingly strict rules on noise emissions. We also work on developments in the field of acoustic monitoring techniques for structures offering new opportunities. The same group working for maritime clients and the civil infrastructure market works on these developments.
What can TNO offer you?
Work enjoyment means something different for each employee. This is why we offer a-la-carte terms and conditions of employment that you can switch around on a monthly basis.
