What will be your role?

In the Netherlands, the energy transition is working at full strength to achieve a carbon-free energy system by 2050. Offshore wind energy plays the lead role in this scenario, as the major share of renewable electricity in the Netherlands will be produced by offshore wind farms. TNO Wind Energy focuses on the development of offshore and other types of wind energy. Reducing costs and improving the efficiency of wind farms are just as important as integrating offshore wind energy into the energy system and the ecology. Your task, together with the research manager, is to create the conditions in which the team will have the greatest possible impact on the energy transition through research and innovation projects.

Under the responsibility of, and together with, the Research Manager, you’ll implement HR policies, including performance management and strategic human resource planning. You’ll also be responsible for capacity planning. This combination means that your work will involve matching the project-based demand for knowledge and competences with the provision of these by the team. In doing so, you’ll maintain a good balance between optimal results and the personal and professional development of our employees.

The Wind Energy department consists of some 55 researchers, divided over 2 locations: Petten and Delft. The team has experienced steady growth and consists of a range of enthusiastic professionals with backgrounds in aerospace, physics and technical physics, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and measurement & control engineering.

How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at TNO and envision it.

What we expect from you

For the position of deputy Research Manager Wind Energy, we’re looking for a committed colleague who wants to be structurally responsible for a share of the department’s management tasks. You’re therefore experienced in leading a group in a changing environment. You have a demonstrable affinity for applied scientific research and the energy transition, and preferably some experience with wind energy. In addition, you’re autonomous, sensitive and decisive, you’re energised by motivating and encouraging people, and you have excellent oral and written communication skills in English (Dutch is an advantage, but not essential).

The management tasks include:
  • Contributing ideas, being a sparring partner for the Research Manager with regard to broad management and development of the employees and the department;
  • Deputising for the Research Manager in his absence (including all responsibilities);
  • Guiding employees in their development;
  • Planning and distribution of work within the department;
  • Improving work processes, including acquisition and project management.

What you’ll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33%, a flex budget (5.58% + € 180) and you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
