What will you be doing?

In this project, you will study the aerodynamics of wind turbines. Thereto you will use an in-house wind turbine design code from TNO and improve the aerodynamic modelling part of it. Calculations with this code will be brought into several research projects, some of them with industry, and they are compared with results from other codes and measurements.

The internship consists of the following tasks:
  1. A literature survey on wind turbine aerodynamics, in particular on recently published improved aerodynamic models.
  2. Implementing the improved models in TNO design codes.
  3. Performing calculations and evaluating the the results together with TNO researchers.
  4. Reporting and presenting findings.

What do we require of you?

Your work will be carried out in our Wind Energy department. Due to the Corona situation you will most likely work from home, remotely supervised by one or two Wind Energy experts.
When the Corona situation improves you may work from Petten and/or Delft. The Wind Energy department houses approximately 60 enthusiastic, academic professionals who have in-depth knowledge of wind energy technology. 

We are looking for MSc students in technology (e.g. aerospace technology, or sustainable energy technology), with the following characteristics: 
  • Enthusiasm for research and technology development.
  • Interest in wind energy.
  • Technical knowledge of wind turbines and aerodynamics.
  • Independent working attitude.
  • Knowledge of Fortran and Matlab or willingness to learn this.
  • Good knowledge of the English language.
  • Available to work at least 32 hours for a period of 6 to 9 months.
