What will you be doing?

A phase locked loop (PLL) is used in frequency synthesizers to achieve high frequency accuracy and is commonly implemented as a single-stage solution. Using instead a cascaded PLL architecture is promising as it can reduce jitter (phase noise) significantly. Your task is to analyse and design this kind of PLL, verify it using higher level models in CppSim and implement it in a SiGe BiCMOS process. In the target application, the synthesizer is running at an output frequency in the multi-GHz range.

What do we require of you?

You are in the final stages of your degree in electrical engineering or a similar degree and have a background in analogue/RF IC design. You have preferably experience with Cadence, you are pragmatic and focused on making things work. Next to technical expertise we value communication skills and a results-driven attitude.

The duration of this internship is 6 to 9 months.

What can you expect of your work situation?

The Department of Radar Technology is a passionate and creative group of professionals (60 people) dedicated to the specification, development and evaluation of innovative, high-performance MMICs, miniaturised and integrated RF subsystems, antennas, front-ends and novel radar concepts and corresponding signal processing. The department is at the heart of novel, game-changing radar systems for the military, space and civil domains.

What can TNO offer you?

You want to work on the precursor of your career; a work placement gives you an opportunity to take a good look at your prospective future employer. TNO goes a step further.
