What will be your role?
At the Sustainable Technologies for Industrial Processes group of TNO, we support the transition towards a low-carbon future by industrial innovation. CO2 capture from gaseous streams is an energy intensive process. In our department we developed a novel concept of cooled absorption based on the structured packing technology, that can increase an energy efficiency of the CO2 capture process. Your project will focus on the experimental work, in which you will conduct a pilot plant experiments with a cooled amine based CO2 absorption. Next to this you will translate results of your experimental work into a model and evaluate a potential of this technology in different applications.

What we expect from you
You are an enthusiastic WO student looking for an internship of 5-6 months. You have a chemical engineering and are eager to learn about energy efficient separation technologies and CO2 utilization. You are pro-active and independent with good communication skills in English. You will be working with a diverse team of scientists/engineering/technicians with a wide variety of expertise to make up for a great learning experience. Practical laboratory experience is necessary for this position.

The Sustainable Technologies for Industrial Processes group has an excellent track record in process technology development. Unique modelling and experimental tools have been developed over the years, including demonstration of installations that can be found all over the world. Within the roadmap ‘Towards a CO2 neutral industry’, we collaborate with a variety of partners, including large enterprises, SMEs, universities and government organizations, to achieve the decarbonization of the industrial sector. We offer a challenging and international working environment in a field that is of eminent importance for our future needs. In your work you will be integral part of a project team and it will include interaction with TNO employees and fellow students, developing both your technical and personal skills. You will be working on real industrial cases, being supervised and coached by experienced TNO staff. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team, which includes scientists, engineers, consultants and technicians. You will be located at the TNO site in Petten, in the north-west of Netherlands. The area, well-known for its sandy beaches, provides a quiet and most beautiful environment for outdoor activities (boating/sailing, swimming, biking, etc.) with easy access to the nearby larger cities such as Amsterdam and Alkmaar.
