What will be your role?

At the Sustainable Technologies for Industrial Processes group of TNO, we support the transition towards a carbon neutral future. Capturing CO2 from gaseous streams is one of our focal points. To increase the energy efficiency of CO2 capture processes, we develop the novel concept of ‘cooled absorption’. Your project will focus on experimental validation of the concept. You will conduct pilot plant experiments with a cooled amine based solvent, translate results into a mathematical model and evaluate the potential of the innovation in different industrial applications.

What we expect from you

You are an enthusiastic WO student looking for an internship of 5-6 months. You have a chemical engineering, material science/engineering background and are eager to learn about energy efficient separation technologies and CO2 capture and utilization. You are pro-active and independent with good communication skills in English. You will be working with a diverse team of scientists/engineering/technicians with a wide variety of expertise to make up for a great learning experience. Practical laboratory capabilities and experience is necessary for this position.

Within the roadmap ‘Towards a CO2 neutral industry’, we collaborate with a variety of partners, including large enterprises, SMEs, universities and governmental organizations, to achieve the decarbonization of the industrial sector.
We offer a challenging and international working environment in a field that is of eminent importance for society future needs. In your work you will be integral part of a project team, including interaction with TNO employees and fellow students, developing both your technical and personal skills. You will be working on real industrial cases, being supervised and coached by experienced TNO staff. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team, which includes scientists, engineers, consultants and technicians. You will be located at the TNO site in Petten, in the north-west of The Netherlands. The area, well-known for its sandy beaches, provides a quiet and most beautiful environment for outdoor activities (boating/sailing, swimming, biking, etc.) with easy access to the nearby larger cities such as Amsterdam and Alkmaar.
