What will you be doing?

The field of computer vision continuously faces a trend of higher frame rates and higher resolutions. One of the challenges here is to make efficient use of the large datasets. An ultimate use case is to real-time process images that were produced by a camera on a drone, and, ideally, use this data for object recognition and flight control. This is where we need your help. We need real-time deep learning algorithms, and we challenge you to make them run robustly on something that has limited processing power, such as a drone.

TNO collaborates in a EU project with a consortium of important players in the imaging industry. You’ll be participating in this project to create a deep learning algorithm for detecting patterns of interest in outdoor images and implementing them on a drone. See for inspiration:

You can start your internship at any moment from January 2020 onward, for a period of at least 3 months. Keep in mind that the start date will be at least 2 months after your application due to an obligatory security screening process (see the remark below at ‘Application process’).

What do we require of you?

You are in the final stage of your degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering or a similar degree and have some track record in the field of computer vision. You have knowledge or interest in Deep Learning and experience with programming mobile robots is an advantage.
