What will you be doing?

Offshore PV is a very challenging topic. The potential is big, but the hurdles to overcome are big as well. The conditions at sea are harsh and we need to know how to protect the solar modules to survive in this rough climate.

During this internship you will:
  •  translate the results of water wave simulations with scale models in water basins to real size mechanical loads of PV modules in offshore constructions;
  • carry out mechanical load experiments simulating the effect of sea waves on real size PV modules. Analysis of these experiments by microscopic investigation of defects in the modules;
  • carry out combined mechanical load tests and climate chamber tests in a dedicated setup. Analysis of these experiments.

What do we require of you?

  • Education in materials science, engineering or physics
  • Proficient in laboratory work
  • Proven interest in renewable energy
  • Team player

What can you expect of your work situation?

Solliance, part of TNO, is an internationally well known research institute on thin film solar cell technology. We work on development of thin film solar cells (perovskites and CIGS) and application of these cells and modules in new products. We are located at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (the Netherlands); a very vivid international R&D environment where more than 10.000 scientists work on new, innovative technologies.
