This student assignment is meant as an open invitation for students interested in performing an internship or graduation project in the field of Additive Manufacturing. The scope of the assignment will depend on your background, the start date and project duration.
Additive Manufacturing (AM), often called 3D printing, is one of the most promising and exciting technologies available today. AM offers opportunities that are often impossible in ‘standard’ production processes, like customization, complex shapes and compositions, resource efficiency and many more. In order for AM to reach its potential and become a broadly used manufacturing technology, we are continuously focused on improving AM technologies on topics like speed, resolution, reproducibility, and developing a broader material portfolio. What do we require of you?
The EfAM department is always searching for technical talent to facilitate the development of state-of-the-art AM processes and equipment. Strong analytical skills, creativity and a result-oriented way of working are required to fulfill the graduation project or training assignment successfully. We are mostly looking for students within the expertise area Technical Sciences, but students from different disciplines are welcome to apply. It is required that you are still enrolled at an educational institute during the internship.

The department Equipment for Additive Manufacturing (EfAM) develops cutting-edge technology and high-precision machine concepts for 3D printing and layer-wise material deposition. We have developed a broad technology baseline during our 20 years of experience in additive manufacturing. We perform application-driven research and have four fields of focus:
- High Tech Application
- Structural / Free-from Electronics,
- Food – Pharma
The department consists of about 40 highly skilled professionals, with a background ranging from mechanical engineering, thermal and fluids engineering, system engineering, control and dynamics, chemistry, process engineering, industrial design and equipment engineering. The development of AM technologies and equipment is done by enthusiastic and multidisciplinary teams. Based on a broad technology basis, our teams define the functional and customer requirement specifications and translate these into innovative concepts. Together with academic and industrial partners, we develop prototypes and (research) equipment that push the boundaries of AM manufacturing. Our projects tend to have a significant international impact and our facilities are unique.
As of 2016, TNO EfAM is part of AMSYSTEMS center, a joint innovation center of TNO and TU/e’s High Tech Systems Center (HTSC). AMSYSTEMS is aimed to bring science and industry together even closer by collaborating on research projects. For more information, please check: http://amsystemscenter.com/
