What will be your role?
This Master thesis project targets the development and validation of a fast-computing physics-based hydrogen-air mixture preparation model. This model forms an extension to TNO’s existing in-cylinder lean burn hydrogen Spark Ignited combustion model. The model will describe the interaction between the fuel injection process and the hydrogen-air mixture quality in the cylinder at park timing. Model development will be based on available measurement data and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. For the latter, an available hydrogen CONVERGE CFD model will be used and extended enabling systematic evaluation of the relevant processes.
For this MSc project the following activities are foreseen:
- Literature study on H2-air mixing and combustion;
- Setup CFD simulation environment in CONVERGE;
- Sensitivity study using CFD model with focus on mixture preparation;
- Design and implement fast computing mixture preparation model in Matlab® simulation environment;
- Process available measurement data for model calibration and validation;
- Write master thesis report and present main findings.
