Would you like to contribute to the energy transition in the Netherlands? The internship is open to masters students from: Utrecht University, Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Faculty of Geosciences; TU Delft, Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management; Radboud University, Faculty of Science; Eindhoven University of Technology, Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences. Other university master tracks can be considered upon request.

What will be your role?

MIDDEN refers to Manufacturing Industry Decarbonisation Data Exchange Network, an initiative developed and coordinated by TNO and PBL (Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency). It is a knowledge exchange platform for the energy transition of the Dutch industry and is used to facilitate system integration studies and the development of industry roadmaps in relation to deep decarbonisation. MIDDEN goes deeper than other knowledge sources, and it is acknowledged as the shared source for industry, government, local authorities, technology suppliers and consultants. Dutch industries actively contribute to and benefit from MIDDEN.

In the past years, TNO and PBL have teamed up with universities through the MIDDEN project to create a robust knowledge base for decarbonisation options in the Dutch energy-intensive industry, supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This internship will contribute to the continuous development of the MIDDEN knowledge base, particularly in the topic on energy efficiency in industry. More information about the MIDDEN knowledge base can be found here: MIDDEN-database -

In this internship, you will be intensively trained to analyse and derive energy efficiency options and potential for specific industries, on a plant level and at subsector level. You will directly consult, under guidance, companies and experts from TNO, PBL and universities on energy efficiency.

The fixed duration of the MIDDEN internship is six months. After successful completion of the internship, you will receive a certificate of ‘MIDDEN expert’ and two years of access to MIDDEN events.
