What will you be doing?

Between 2.5 and 3.5 million people in The Netherlands (15-20%) suffer from allergic and chronic inflammatory diseases. In roughly half of the disorders that are not primarily classified as immunological disorders, inflammatory processes also play a central role (e.g., Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, many cancers, infectious diseases). Our research is aimed at getting better insight into the extrinsic factors that play a role, and how they play a role, in allergic and inflammatory diseases. We want to support the identification, development and implementation of targets for a better population and personalized prevention, diagnosis, management and therapy of allergic and inflammatory diseases.

Our research group ‘Modelling Immune Health’ investigates and collects immune health and food related data for modelling immune health and to analyse these data in specially developed platforms. We do this in close collaboration with many experts within and outside our department and organisation.

We are continuously looking for students interested in an internship in one of the following domains:
  • Improvement of allergen and allergy management to support food safety for food allergic patients.
  • Development of approaches to identify food components that play a role in inflammatory diseases
  • The prediction of the potential health outcomes of qualitative and quantitative changes in immune functions expected upon addition, removal or modulation of an extrinsic factor, i.e. intervention
  • Development of risk-benefit assessment approaches in allergic and inflammatory diseases
If you are interested in one of these topics and what to know the current internship possibilities, please contact us for the most recent project proposals.

What do we require of you?

  • You are a Master’s student with interest in allergic and inflammatory diseases, data management and statistics
  • You enjoy being part of a multi-disciplinary team, but can also work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of Life Sciences is an advantage
