Internship | Novel CO2 capture approach to improve the process and reduce costs

What will you be doing?

MEA is the benchmark solvent for post-combustion CO2 capture via temperature swing absorption, however, one of the major cost is associated with the use of steam for this regeneration at temperature around 120°C. Finding a new solvent that would enable a cost reduction while facilitating the regeneration process is certainly a game changer.
Solvent characterization will be done using MAC, VLE and Kinetic set ups at TNO and, if one of the solvents has a potential to achieve what we expect, new tests will be done in a bigger scale using the Miniplant (bigger scale CO2 capture setup at TNO).

What do we require of you?

Finding the perfect solvent is not an easy job. A lot of measurements and lab work are necessary, so we ask for lab experience making solutions, analyzing samples and results. Critical thinking and creativity are important to be able to select different solvents and understand how is it possible to find the best composition for the application.Together with this, being open minded and willing to work in a diverse environment is essential!
