What will you be doing?

What is the present-day background “breathing” of petroleum systems in the Netherlands (e.g. West Netherlands Basin) and can we validate this with field measurements?

A petroleum system is very ineffective and only a small part is trapped while a very large part is lost. The relative magnitudes of hydrocarbon loss varies greatly from case to case. Moreover different studies for methane fluxes for a petroleum system like he North Sea Basin vary largely as well.

This internship proposal is complementary to present TNO studies like “measuring thermogenic/biogenic gas levels” and offshore “shallow gas”.

This (6 months) internship for an MSc. student will include amongst others:
  • literature study;
  • basin analysis study (e.g. Petromod plug-in for Petrel);
  • mass balance approach of petroleum systems in the Netherlands;
  • measuring hydrocarbon levels in the field.

What do we require of you?

You are in the final stages of your degree in geo sciences. You are pragmatic and focused on making things work. Next to technical expertise we value communication skills and a results-driven attitude.

What can you expect of your work situation?

It’s not just looking that interests us, you and your knowledge are essential to our innovation. That’s why we attach a great deal of value to your personal and professional development. You will, of course, be properly supervised during your internship, and be given the scope for you to exceed yourself and your expectations. We also provide suitable compensation for internships.
