What will you be doing?
You will be working in the Quantum Technology department of TNO, in close collaboration with the TU Delft, in the QuTech research centre for quantum computing and quantum internet. QuTech addresses scientific challenges as well as engineering issues in a joint centre of know-how together with industrial partners. The Quantum Technology department of TNO plays an active role in working towards this goal, and also aims at other areas of quantum engineering, such as Quantum Sensing and Quantum Simulation.
As an intern, you will contribute to TNO’s mission to bring low TRL developments closer to industrial applications and to the market. Depending upon your background and interest, your internship may focus on:
- Certain aspects of the integration of quantum devices into systems that utilize them, either on the engineering side or on the software and control side.
- The design and development of innovative quantum devices, and the robust processes needed to manufacture them.
You will be working within a team of researchers, guided in your activities by a TNO supervisor, and the outcome of your work will contribute to other developments and projects conducted by TNO.
What do we require of you?
You are a Masters student in the last phase of your study in a relevant field (physics, computer sciences, electrical engineering, mathematics), preferably with some knowledge of one of the following:
- Programming and algorithm development (Python or a similar language is preferred).
- Quantum systems or quantum information research.
- Experience in developing and conducting scientific research.
The most important thing is your motivation to work in this rapidly changing field. A successful graduation project at TNO relies on a combination of knowledge and interest, both from the candidate and his/her supervisor.
What can you expect of your work situation?
The Department of Quantum Technology employs engineers, system integrators and clean room experts with backgrounds in physics and quantum technology. We work in close collaboration with our customers and with the TU Delft (QuTech collaboration) in developing applications in the area of Quantum Technology.
What can TNO offer you?
You want to work on the precursor of your career, an internship provides you with the opportunity to take a good look at your prospective future employer. TNO also goes a step further. It’s not just looking that interests us, you and your knowledge are essential to our innovation. That’s why we attach a great deal of value to your personal and professional development. You will, of course, be properly supervised during your internship, and be given the scope for you to exceed yourself and your expectations. We also provide suitable compensation for internships.
