What will you be doing?
Using lightweight materials in automotive components is an effective approach in reducing CO2 emission and extending driving range. From this viewpoint, continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites (TPC) are a preferred material due to their high strength to weight ratio. However, the practical applicability of TPC still needs further improvements in different aspects such as predictability of material behavior and failure, long-term performance, actual recycling technologies, etc. The shared research program Light Weight Automotive (LWA) at Brightlands Materials Center (BMC) in Geleen is striving to facilitate use of the TPCs in future automotive industry.
You will work in our research center and will participate in the activities of the Light Weight Automotive (LWA) team. Depending on your interest, field of study, and background, your tasks can comprise of material processing, testing, analyzing and modeling.
What do we require of you?
We are looking for students (BSc or MSc) with a background in the fields of mechanical engineering or material science, that have a hands-on mentality. Previous experience with working in a laboratory environment and affinity to polymer chemistry and material science are a plus. Finally, good communication skills in written and spoken English are expected. The internship period should last at least 4 months.
