What will be your role?

Thermoplastic composites (TPC) are a family of fiber reinforce polymeric composites that are easy to process, easy to shape, and recyclable . These characteristics make them very interesting for automotive and other industrial applications. In modern automotive industry, TPCs are becoming more important since upcoming environmental legislation will force car manufacturers to incorporate a high percentage of recyclable materials in their products.
Sustainable Mobility research group at TNO is developing new technology of TPCs, and within this scope welcomes students who are interested to work on the following topics:
  1. Hybrid TPCs - Interface technology of thermoplastic composites;
  2. Recycling of thermoplastic composites;
  3. Processing & 3D printing of thermoplastic composites;
  4. Mechanical testing of thermoplastic composites;
  5. Numerical simulation of processing and mechanical performance of thermoplastic composites.

You will work in our research center and will participate in the activities of the Sustainable Mobility (SUMO) team. Depending on your interest, field of study, and background, your tasks can comprise of material processing, testing, analyzing and modeling.

What we expect from you

We are looking for students (BSc or MSc) with a background in the fields of mechanical engineering or material science, that have a hands-on mentality. Previous experience with working in a laboratory environment and affinity to polymer chemistry and material science are plus. Finally, good communication skills in written and spoken English are expected. The internship period should last at least 4 months.
