What will you be doing?

The TNO Optics department consists of 80 specialists divided into 5 disciplines, namely: Optical Designers, Optical Engineers, Optical Scientists, Project Managers and System Engineers. We work in multidisciplinary teams together with the Optomechatronics department, the Space System Engineering department and the Nano Instrumentation department to devise world-class technical solutions that meet the needs of customers with respect to compact high-performance optical systems in extreme conditions.
As an Optical Engineer, you are responsible for conducting optical experiments. You build and align set-ups and are also responsible for performing numerous measurements. These activities are done in our laboratories. You use spectroscopy technology, fibre optics technology and metrology technology within R&D projects. The projects to which you contribute mainly pertain to customers in the following industries: Aerospace, Semiconductor, Medical, Energy and Defence.

What do we require of you?

In order to fulfil the position of Optical Engineer as required, it is imperative that you can identify with the following profile:
  • You have graduated from a University of Applied Sciences with a degree in Physics, preferably specialising in optics.
  • You are a true perfectionist and practical person in your work. You enjoy going to extremes to get a setup up and running on time and on budget and you like working hands-on in the lab.
  • You are proactive and enterprising.
  • Besides doing your job, you also like contributing to the social side of the department.

Application process

You can apply till the 20th of June. The first round of interviews is scheduled on the 5th of July. The process comprises at least three (selection) rounds. First two interview rounds and then an assessment and presentation. After a positive selection, we will finish off the process by discussing terms and conditions of employment. We try to complete the interviews and assessment within 4 weeks.
