What will you be doing?

The subsurface will play a crucial role in the energy transition by providing a source of heat, as storage capacity for energy in the form of gas, and as a permanent storage space for CO¬2. It is also expected to remain an important source of hydrocarbons for the foreseeable future, with all environmental and safety aspects associated with it. TNO is one of the main knowledge providers in this domain in the Netherlands and within the EU. It also acts as innovator on the international stage.
You are contributing to various research & development projects in the field of reservoir engineering. Amongst others you will contribute to the development and simulation of numerical flow models that describe the subsurface production and storage of e.g. CO2, hydrogen and geothermal heat. This can be in the context of scientific research, projects with industrial partners, or for the evaluation of production license applications. You support the development of computational software tools and workflows based on geoscientific models and run experiments that use these models to enhance production and storage strategies.

What do we require of you?

  • You have a master degree in reservoir engineering and preferably at least one/two years of work experience.
  • Course work and/or research must focus on simulation and/or scientific computing.
  • You have experience with various simulators, such as for example Eclipse.
  • You have experience with coding, preferably in Python and C++.
  • You have good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • You are a team player who is willing to go the extra mile to achieve results in projects.

The expertise group Applied Geosciences (AGS) within TNO hosts about 50 professionals, for a large part earth scientists and subsurface engineers. Our project portfolio covers the entire chain of resource exploration, efficient production, subsurface storage, and the re-use and de-commissioning of existing infrastructure.
