What will you be doing?

You will be primarily managing international projects of the Geological Survey of the Netherlands, which includes EU-projects and international contract research. Most, if not all of our current EU-research is undertaken under the GeoERA program (http:// This program coordinates research activities of 45 European geological surveys from 32 European countries. Beyond the delivery of individual projects, your role includes a contribution to the program's ambition to establish a geological service for Europe, to which end you have or will establish a strong network among the geological surveys involved and relevant EU organizations. Our international contract research portfolio currently includes capacity building in Africa, joint industry projects in the North Sea Basin, and contributions to nature conservation and flood safety studies in Central Asia.

What do we require of you?

  • You have a relevant university degree (MSc/PhD), preferably in the earth sciences or a related field, as well as 5 to 10 years of experience as project manager in R&D.
  • You are IPMA-C certified.
  • You are able to write project proposals, and to structure projects within given constraints.
  • You possess strong leadership skills, and are able to motivate and coach team members.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English, preferably also in Dutch.
  • You are willing to travel.

What can you expect of your work situation?

The Geomodelling department consists of about 55 highly motivated researchers, primarily geoscientists. The department's core activity is to map the Dutch subsurface systematically. Our main application domains include the built environment (upper 10s of meters), groundwater management (upper 100s of meters) and geo-energy (upper 1000s of meters). We conduct research to develop our product portfolio, nationally and internationally (e.g. EU).

You can apply till the 7th of July. The first round of interviews is scheduled on the 23rd of July. The process comprises at least two (selection) rounds. After a positive selection, we will finish off the process by discussing terms and conditions of employment. We try to complete the interviews and assessment within 4 weeks.
