What will be your role?
The Dutch manufacturing industry is one of the most important in the world. It is responsible for a significant percentage of our country's export and offers excellent employment opportunities to myriad professionals. Lastly, it makes an invaluable contribution to our efforts to resolve the major challenges that our society faces. However, this does call for an industry that is ready for the future. One that is versatile, efficient and sustainable. TNO is combining its strengths with those of various partners to make the Netherlands the most flexible and digitally connected production network in all of Europe by the year 2025. Our instrument? A new Smart Industry “roadmap
,” that includes various interconnected and ambitious research programmes. As market director, you will turn this roadmap into a commercial and social success.
As market director, you are crucial for the impact of the new roadmap. In concrete terms: your job will be to help the roadmap - which circa 65 people are currently working on - double in size. This will require both thought leadership and a clear market strategy. These are two areas in which you will make a real difference. You will set up new partnerships and co-creations, e.g. with SMEs, multinationals and governments. You set goals, tap into new markets, develop business models and maintain relationships with key accounts. You understand the challenges that individual businesses face. At the same time, you know that technologies will have to be implemented on a large scale if we are to take the Dutch manufacturing industry to the next level. Furthermore, you are responsible for the healthy financial development of the roadmap.
You will achieve all this together with your Business Development team, which is made up of business developers, lead consultants and lead scientists. As market director, your job is to manage, inspire, develop, coach and assess your team. You also form part of the team of directors of the Industry unit.
As a member of this team, you contribute to the development of the unit's strategy and implement it within your own roadmap. In doing so, you will work alongside TNO and the Dutch manufacturing industry to realise the Industry 4.0!
Would you like to know more about what we are already doing to make the industry smarter? Among other things, TNO was the initiator of the Smart Connected Supplier Network
and it developed an innovative operator support system
that resulted in faster and error-free assembly processes.
How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at TNO and envision it.
What we expect from you
Many areas of expertise come together in this versatile and dynamic role. Think of knowledge of robotics, standards for the sharing of data or control loops in production systems. Even more important is that you possess insight into production environments and understand how technological innovations can be integrated within these environments. That process is different for SMEs than it is for major corporations. Furthermore, you can sit down with administrators with responsibility at the provincial, national and European level to discuss employment opportunities in their industrial ecosystems. With your sense of entrepreneurship and commercial insight, you create and capitalise on opportunities and anticipate future needs.
Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO include:
- A university degree and extensive experience in the high-tech manufacturing industry.
- Experience with managing, developing and motivating a diverse team, preferably in a matrix organisation in which there is constant coordination between e.g. market teams and expertise groups.
- A network of SMEs, multinationals and public-private partnerships, preferably at the management level.
- Affinity with innovation and technology development at different levels of maturity.
- Financial knowledge, preferably including knowledge of government incentives for research.
- An excellent command of Dutch or the willingness and skills to learn the language quickly.
What you’ll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 7,300,- and € 9,600,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
