What will you be doing?
In your role as Business Developer, you will work on behalf of the TNO biomass team to initiate partnerships with (international) industrial parties that want to ‘green’ their products or processes, e.g. companies in the manufacturing industry, the waste sector and chemical industry. Your goal is to bring in research assignments or to sign up companies to existing research projects. It will be thanks to you that companies recognise the importance of thermo-chemical conversion technologies and concepts for making their sector sustainable, and they will be prepared to invest in this. This will allow us to make the technologies we invent market-ready. You will maintain relationships with existing clients, but also seek out new opportunities to increase our sales area and network.
Your close collaboration with the team’s researchers and the fact that you regularly attend conferences mean you will know exactly what challenges the sector is facing and how these can be resolved. As such, we are currently researching biomass from sawdust, energy crops and cultivated seaweed, and developing techno-economic process simulations and demonstration models. You will also support the management of the TNO Energy unit with developing the portfolio of research proposals.Read more about research into biomass at TNO.
What do we require of you?
You are passionate about sustainability and you want to use this passion to mean something to the world. Collaboration is essential to this, something that you already know like no one else. And that’s exactly where your strength lies. You enjoy investing in future-proof relationships with clients, partners and prospects. That allows you to build up a valuable network and create unique opportunities to make society more familiar with TNO’s research. What else can you offer?
- University education, with a background in process technology and organic chemistry.
- Experience in business development and a commercial mindset.
- Good language skills: you speak and write fluent Dutch and English.
- Prepared to travel for work. You will make short trips abroad approximately once a month, mainly within Europe.
- A car, because you will be visiting companies across the country.
What can you expect of your work situation?
The TNO biomass team comprises about 50 socially engaged professionals working on developing technologies to convert sustainably cultivated biomass into green forms of energy, chemical and fuels. We do this using funding from and in collaboration with the government, the European Union and the business community. We also work a lot with universities and other research institutes. The team works from three separate locations: Petten, Delft and Bergen op Zoom. You will be located in Petten, but will often work from the other locations. This will help you get to know your colleagues quickly.Meet your colleagues
As an independent research firm, TNO bridges the gap between the academic and commercial worlds. We translate research results into clear applications and solutions, thereby solving future problems today. We give you the time to consider the situations you are working on. And once a project is complete? Then we will continue our journey of discovery, looking for new tools, gadgets and advice that will benefit Dutch companies and organisations in the future. With around 3,000 employees, we are active in nine different spheres for a wide array of clients, including governments, SMEs, social organisations, corporate and service providers.Read more about TNO as an employer
