What will you be doing?
In the Structural Reliability department, part of the Construction, Infrastructure and Maritime and Offshore (BI&M) Unit, you will work as a project leader on leading projects in the construction and infrastructure sector. You head research projects in the field of reliability, management, replacement and renovation of infrastructure, hydraulic engineering and offshore. You are widely interested in the performance of materials and the reliability of structures. As such, you also work on projects with different departments within TNO and with a wide range of clients. What do we require of you?
As a project leader, you are able to translate the request of the client or (multiple) stakeholders into a thorough project plan with clear objectives, results, project risk assessment and schedule and to steer it accordingly. You are responsible for delivering the project on time and on budget with optimal customer satisfaction and hence also for the (financial) result of TNO. You involve the expertise of your team members so that together you can design and carry out the research effectively and advise the client in an appropriate manner. You are able to switch smoothly between various new domains and you can master new domains quickly, seeking collaboration with various experts within and outside TNO. You see the connections between different projects and use this to come up with creative solutions for complex client requests. You have the ability to distinguish main issues from side-issues and your manner is to-the-point. In addition, the following applies to you:
- You have academic cognitive skills and a degree in Civil Engineering (Delft) or Architecture (Eindhoven).
- You have at least 5 years' work experience in civil engineering, including several years of demonstrable experience as a project leader for customer-oriented projects.
- You are an organisational talent and have the ability to use this talent to work towards the goal, together with a team, in a systematic and structured manner. You do not shy away from taking responsibility for the work.
- You have a good spoken and written command of Dutch and English.
- Experience with technical research projects is a plus.
What can you expect of your work situation?
People and society at large rely on the infrastructure and buildings they use to always be safe, reliable and available. Be it ageing infrastructure, increasingly complex building designs in the residential and utilities sector or new challenges in offshore infrastructure and wind farms, the reliability and service life of structures is crucial.
The Structural Reliability department contributes to the safety, reliability and performance of structures, while the total cost of ownership is optimised. To that end, we develop innovative solutions to extend the service life of infrastructure and buildings, reduce CO2 emissions or make materials completely circular – by conducting fundamental research, contract research, consultancy and forensic engineering.
For the Structural Reliability department, we are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual with a civil engineering, architectural, physics or similar background; for project and programme management, consultancy and research. Whichever you role will fulfil, working at SR is varied, innovative and has a great impact.
