What will you be doing?

From mapping the galaxy and investigating the largest scales of the cosmos, down to the fast measurement and manipulation of matter at the nanometer level: the TNO research group Optomechatronics develops world-class optomechanical and mechatronics systems for customer needs in the fields of Space- and Scientific Instrumentation and the Semiconductor Industry. With some 75 specialists, systems engineers and project managers, we develop working instrument prototypes to show how the technical challenges of our partners and customers can be solved.
    We push the limits of technology, to stimulate Dutch industry and enable scientific discovery. 

Our group is growing fast in the areas of nano-instruments for semicon inspection and metrolgy, and adaptive optics modules for optical sattelite comunication. To build on this success, we are looking for a project manager. 
As project manager you will work on the definition and execution of projects for the realization of complex hardware. You manage multi-disciplinary teams of specialists and systems engineers, mainly in the area of optics, precision mechanics, control engineering and MAIT. Together with your team, you strive to make the impossible possible. As a project manager you naturally deliver results on time and within budget; but you also build and maintain excellent relations with our customers, you look beyond the scope of your projects to the bigger picture, and you work with business developers on the acquisition of new projects. 

What do we require of you?

To be a project manager at the optomechatronics department, it's important that you recognize yourself in the profile as described below. Meaning that you have:
  • A MSc in mechanical engineering, physics or similar;
  • At least 5 (or when applying for the senior position, 10) years experience in a high tech systems envinronment, of which at least 3 (5) as a project manager;
  • Experience in building hardware for paying customers;
  • Experience in writing proposals;
  • A customer- and result-oriented mindset;
  • A structured but pragmatic way of working, you can adapt your management style to the situation, and you are able to operate in an R&D environment and deal with the uncertainties that it brings;
  • An excellent mastery of the English language, both verbal and written.
