What will you be doing?
In a lot of applications you can find optical research of TNO, for example: in monitoring the size of the hole in the ozone layer, optimizing oil production, mobile phone chips and in non-invasive glucose measurements for diabetics. The Optics Research Group (70FTE) is one of the leading Optics groups within Europe for design and development of high-performance optical solutions.
Our activities mainly focus on the Space & Science Instrumentation and Semiconductor Equipment markets, expanding to other markets, such as optical sensing for Medical Diagnostics, Oil and Gas, Maritime & Offshore, and Defence. The unique contribution of TNO Optics in Space Instrumentation has been widely recognized. We develop, design, build, integrate, test and calibrate optical systems, which have extremely high performance/accuracy and operate in very demanding environments, including ultra-high vacuum, extremely high and low temperatures, extreme dynamic loads, etc. Such environments are encountered in space, inside semiconductor manufacturing equipment, in oceans and oil wells, inside a fusion reactor, or inside a human body.
TNO Optics works closely together with other research groups within the Nanotechnology Cluster in Delft (200FTE), in particular, with Opto-Mechatronics, Space Systems Engineering and Nano-Instrumentation for the development of new instruments for Space and Semiconductor Equipment applications. Combining our knowledge of optics with expertise available in these research groups enables us to offer complete measurement solutions to our customers. This is strengthened by extensive in-house laboratory facilities and specialized manufacturing capabilities.
What do we require of you?
Because we are expanding our team we’re looking for new talent to join our Optics Research Group. We expect for you to have:
- Finished your Masters and or PhD, specializing in Optics;
- Experience with (complex) optical experiments;
- Clear ideas and vision on developments and trends within optics;
- A relevant national and international network in the academia that are active in Optics.
We expect you to be up and running in no time. This means that from day one you will be working on the ongoing projects together with your project team. In these projects you’ll have a lot of interaction with colleagues of different disciplines, but also with TNO’s clients and partners. Therefore you need to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to enjoy the diversity that comes with the job. While working on (different) projects together with your colleagues you’ll be able to explore and develop your interests in the fields of expertise that TNO operates in.
