TNO’s mission is to apply scientific knowledge and technology into higher TRL (Technology Readiness Level) applications. We do this on the topic of Quantum Technology too. We design and build as well, designing and building quantum devices, as well as systems. These leverage on their quantum properties (for application in communication, computing or sensing). Are you looking for a fascinating project, at the boundary between science and engineering? Do you have experience with Quantum Sensing? TNO is growing its activities in this area and is looking to expand its team of researchers. You will be working in the Quantum Technology department of TNO in projects we perform directly for clients. This as well as in tight collaboration with other partners like the TU Delft.

What will be your role?

You will be working with other scientist to build-up our Quantum Sensing portfolio of activities. While the scientific knowledge in The Netherlands on this field is excellent, it has yet to create the impact it could have on Dutch and other societies.

In the context of the National Agenda Quantum Technology, you will support the creation of open test facilities for quantum sensing, to be used by companies to show and integrate the technology.

You will mainly be involved in a facility aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of NV centers and other spin-based sensors, identifying and testing potential applications, and supporting the development of prototypes.

Beyond setting up the facility you will also develop specific instruments for instance in the field of magnetometry.

What we expect from you

The expected work requires the following technical proficiency and background:
  • Msc or PhD degree in the field of Quantum Sensing, preferably with NV centers.
  • You have original ideas, solutions and methods. and solution driven.
  • You are able to clearly express yourself towards co-workers and customers. (primarily in English).
The position is open to both starter as well as more experienced candidates with relevant experience developing quantum sensing systems.

Also to the above mentioned, this role requests for the following skills:
You are in charge and work precisely and carefully in an organized way of working, result-driven and eager. You are willing to voluntarily adapt your own attitude and views to changing circumstances. In your way of thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to work beneficially in diverse teams.

The selection process

Please apply before July 4, 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place in weeks 26 and 27. The second interview round has been scheduled for weeks 28 and 29. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
