ESI is an open innovation research centre hosted by TNO with strong partnerships with industry-leading high-tech companies. ESI addresses the ever-increasing complexity the high-tech industry is facing in the systems they create through the development of new methods and techniques for system design and engineering. Its extensive research programme aims to advance high-tech industry in improving lead-time and effectiveness of their product innovation process, as well as the functionality and quality of their products. In addition, ESI provides specific programmes for innovation support and competence development of system architects and senior engineers.
The ESI strategic research programme (http://www.esi.nl/research/) focuses on the development of innovative techniques for design and engineering of high-tech (embedded) systems and applications within a rapidly changing technology environment. Multidisciplinary teams of experts of renowned (multi)national high-tech enterprises, SMEs, and leading academic research groups work together and link fundamental research results directly to industrial application. The dedicated ESI competence development programme (http://www.esi.nl/innovation-support/competence-development/) supports system architects and industrial engineers in developing their professional skills. Overall, the ESI network represents a unique platform for open innovation that facilitates research cooperation and knowledge exchange across stakeholders.
ESI, founded in 2002, is a Joint Innovation Centre in TNO. Since partnering with TNO in 2013, we have grown in people and activities by about 50% expanding our ecosystem of high-tech enterprises and national and international academic institutions. ESI’s (founding) partners are the industry-leading companies ASML, NXP, Océ, Philips, Thales, Thermo-Fisher Scientific and TNO, along with Delft University of Technology, Radboud University, University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology.
