What will you be doing?

As a Researcher Process Technology you perform desk-top studies in the area of techno-economic evaluations and energy savings potentials. The comparisons between competing and the assessments of different technologies in the field of energy intensive processes will be used to evaluate the current and future R&D trajectory with a focus on separation and conversion processes. You are expected to play a leading role in these discussions. Further activities will be related to chemical reactor simulation and engineering. The evaluation of experimental results will support the technology development.

What do we require of you?

You have: At least a MSc in Chemical engineering or related disciplines.  
  • Basic knowledge of common unit operations in the industry.
  • A proven track record in process systems engineering (specifically flowsheeting).
  • Experience with experimental work.
  • Experience in techno-economic evaluations as well as chemical reactor simulation and engineering.
  • Working knowledge of conventional software tools in chemical engineering.
  • Knowledge of AspenTech (Aspen Plus, Aspen Custom Modeler), the Mathworks (Matlab), and Comsol (Multiphysics), is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic knowledge of the Dutch language or are willing to learn this.  
You are an open minded, enthusiastic, creative and result driven person. You are a good listener to clients and able to define your own work. You are able to work in multi-disciplinary teams and can switch easily between different tasks among projects. You are able to supervise experimental work.

The unit Biomass & Energy Efficiency develops technology and know-how for the transition to a sustainable carbon society as well as the efficient use of energy and raw materials in the existing chemical process industry. The R&D program closely collaborates with partners from industry, research institutes and universities. The unit has an excellent track record in technology development, demo installations are found at different locations all over the world. You will be able to develop in-depth expertise on the wide range of energy related technologies that ECN part of TNO is working on. At the same time your horizon will be broadened through technical and economical assessments and (inter)national contacts.
