What will you be doing?

We expect that the increasing possibilities of sensors, the 5G network, real-time data collection, big data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence will provide a big boost to the digital transformation in the construction industry. This will impact not only the design, but also the maintenance and renovation of the built environment and infrastructural assets. In the building and infrastructure domain, we work together with our clients on developing new methods to search for, link up and detect trends in large datasets (such as in BIM).

We believe that in future it will be possible to increasingly automate the testing of new designs against building regulations by using self-learning systems and intelligence. We also envisage every building structure in the Netherlands having a virtual twin of which the structural and material behaviour has been modelled, and which monitors the status, thanks to continuous real-time data feeds from sensors, and even autonomously reports when maintenance or repairs are required. Can you imagine what is possible when you combine these data, or what you could achieve if you also added data from other domains?

What do we require of you?

You have a university degree with a technical background: a Master's  Construction Management and Eingineering, Mathematics, Technical Physics or Civil Engineering with a specialisation in BIM/ICT or Computer Science. You recognize yourself in the following profile: 
  • The skills to translate ideas into working prototypes of tools or products and to guide others in the processing of refining them into market-ready products.
  • You are inquisitive, objective and can express your ideas well. In addition, you can independently translate new ideas and concepts into convincing prototypes.
  • Experience with at least one of the following technologies: JAVA, BIM server, IfcOpenShell.
  • Experience with (BIM) SparQL, JSON, voxels, 3D geometry and server-side computing (machine learning) is a plus.
  • You have affinity with construction practice, from the design phase through to the use phase.
  • Knowledgeable about Machine Learning methods and aware of the relevant prerequisites, opportunities and limitations.
  • Experience with using machine learning libraries (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, sklearn, Caffe and Torch) is an advantage.
