Climate change, aging, circularity requirements. As a senior consultant, you have a thorough understanding of the challenges facing the national and regional managers of wet structural works. You bridge the gap with the innovations of TNO in Delft.
What will you be doing?
At a strategic level you connect the strength of TNO – the development of technologies and knowledge of structures – with the Dutch water domain, by translating complex management, maintenance and replacement issues from clients such as Rijkswaterstaat into applied research. These are often tasks at the intersection of structures and subsoil, which involves close collaboration with other research institutions such as Deltares.
Take the knowledge program Hydraulic Structures as an example. You analyse how the stakeholders’ strategy with respect to the replacement task can be optimised. With your ideas from a technical point of view, you initiate research into issues such as: how do we accurately determine the actual lifespan of quay walls? And do the functional performances of pumping stations still meet the current demand?
You pro-actively seek opportunities to use TNO’s innovative solutions to meet the needs of other managers in the water domain, such as district water boards. At the appropriate moments you draw attention to our new, widely applicable techniques, such as monitoring tools, models or calculation techniques. Your insight in(?) the domain enables you to determine, for example, whether they can contribute to the sustainability transition or whether they can be used to predict the load on structures caused by climate change. In this way you champion the role that TNO plays in the field of flood risk management on a daily basis and contribute to tomorrow’s world. Can you picture it?
What do we require of you?
You are a networker with a solid network in the Dutch hydraulic engineering sector. By listening carefully, knowing what (potential) clients are doing and understanding their needs, you can assess how TNO is of unequalled value to them. In this way you put our organisation in the spotlight at the right time. You also know exactly from whom in your network you can obtain which knowledge. As the link in the initiation of strategic developments, you are hard on the content and soft on the relationship. In addition, you can sense perfectly which administrative influences play a role in projects and when you need to call upon the expertise of others.
What else can you offer?
- A university degree in a relevant field, such as civil engineering, hydraulic engineering or other relevant education;
- At least ten years’ experience in the hydraulic engineering sector;
- Knowledge of the risk-based approach to flood risk management;
- Technical knowledge of structures, including their behaviour in different situations, how they age and which materials can be used;
- Good communication skills in both English and Dutch (at least B2 level) and persuasiveness.
