What will be your role?

In the position of Senior Expert RF Systems, you will work on innovative and challenging projects, in particular for Defence and the National Security domain. Your role will be to work with a project team applying research and innovations in order to help clients find solutions for their operational issues. These issues relate to the electromagnetic spectrum and the signals it contains from communication, radar, navigation and sensor systems. Examples include picking up signals from the electromagnetic spectrum and analysing them to map enemy communications and derive information about an opponent or their intentions. Besides this 'electronic surveillance' of the spectrum, active capabilities also play an important role, involving research and development of techniques to disrupt, manipulate or falsify signals in the spectrum. These capabilities are deployed to protect against threats, for example in the case of roadside bombs detonated by remote control, or against drones that threaten security. Based on the knowledge of signals in the electromagnetic spectrum and the techniques to manipulate them, cyber actions are developed via wireless connections. You will contribute your expertise to this field of knowledge, known as Cyber Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA).

You will also research analysis methods to understand wireless (civilian and military) communication protocols, intercepting information, manipulating signals, exploiting vulnerabilities and locating transmitters. You do this by making smart use of modern methods and techniques in the field of signal and protocol analysis, machine learning, digital signal processing, simulation, system implementation (Software Defined Radio) and software tooling.

What we expect from you

You have a proven track record in organizing and coordinating activities within this field. In addition, you have good advisory and communication skills to communicate results to clients and to your colleagues. You also get energy from transferring knowledge to colleagues and you are flexible, inquisitive and able to switch between tasks and set priorities. After all, you work on various subjects and projects simultaneously.

What else do you have to offer?
  • You have a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, (Technical) Physics, Computer Science or similar.
  • You have work experience in the field of EM and antenna theory, signal analysis, radio communication systems, communication protocols and measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience with RF systems, EM simulation, Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology, MatLab, Python, C/C++, and modern electronics (such as embedded computing and FPGA) are a plus.
  • Our work is often done in an international context and therefore you have a good command of English, both verbally as well as in writing.

The selection process

Please apply before August 15th 2021. The first round is planned on August 26th and 27th. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.

The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
