What will you be doing?
Plotting a course, monitoring the frameworks of multidisciplinary projects and managing a team of highly trained professionals – you have it all in you. On the one hand, you are theory-minded and interested in research: You can brainstorm with scientists and technicians and have an eye for their development and cooperation in the team.The department where you will work consists mainly of junior and medior professionals. As a seasoned senior you give direction to this group. For your colleagues and partners, you are a figurehead, a source of information and a sounding board when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI).

What do we require of you?
You are a creative, curious and innovative researcher who likes to unravel and analyse complex problems. You know like no other how to make the essence clear. You encourage cooperation, both with your colleagues and with partners in the field. You are someone who carries the load naturally, coaches less experienced colleagues and initiates improvements. What else can you offer?
- At least ten years' work experience and preferably a doctorate in your field.
- At least five years' experience in all areas of hybrid artificial intelligence and the design of unmanned and autonomous systems. We distinguish the following sub-areas: reasoning, machine learning, optimisation, knowledge representation, systems modelling and systems engineering. This allows you to see which combination of different AI techniques and system architecture is the most promising solution for a problem.
- Knowledge of the latest developments in the field and preferably an up-to-date network with, for example, universities and knowledge organizations.
- Preferably experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java and Python.
- Affinity with the domain of defence and security.
What can you expect of your work situation?
Self-operating and autonomous systems have become an integral part of our society. Drones, robots, driverless cars, smart factories, intelligent sensor networks, smart grids and so on. The Distributed Sensor Systems department conducts research into the underlying technology of these types of systems. Using practical demonstrators and prototypes, we help customers develop new products and solve social issues. For example, our automation allows naval vessels to also sail with smaller crews; self-operating systems to operate collectively as a swarm; or buildings and data centers to learn for themselves where they can save energy.
