At TNO Equipment for Additive Manufacturing we work on innovative 3D printing solutions together with our partners. One such topic our department focusses on is 3D food printing. 3D Printing offers the opportunity to provide personalized nutrition, at remote locations, for individuals to perform at their best. With that in mind the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center, TNO and WUR have signed a collaborative agreement to advance this technology beyond the current state-of-the-art. Within this project, personalized food products are developed by using 3D printing technology developed by TNO. In the current stage, food formulations and printing behavior are investigated. At a later stage, novel and personalized prototype products are defined and need to be validated. These prototypes are validated on several printing platforms. One such platform is a commercial 3D food printer available to all partners within the project. This will allow for a close collaboration between partners and will make optimal use of the digital nature of 3D food printing, as products made on one location can be digitally transferred and then locally recreated on another location. The other setup is a multinozzle prototype setup developed by TNO Equipment for Additive Manufacturing. By validating all prints on the TNO multinozzle printer it will be ensured that next steps such as scale up, as well as the printing of more complex products will be covered, as the TNO multinozzle printer will form the basis for the next generation printer that will be developed in a new project with the Dutch Ministry of Defense as well as other partners.
What will be your role?
- Performing printing experiments with the required dough formulation, as well as improving where needed (in collaboration with WUR).
- Develop protocols for printing and post processing.
- Making 3D designs and write gcodes, and experimentally validate them.
- Develop prototype food products and validate them on both the commercial printer setup as well as the multinozzle printer.
- Reporting the results
How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at TNO and envision it.
What we expect from you
