What will you be doing?
In just a few decades, 40% of the world’s electricity production will be supplied by using solar energy. However, agricultural and farming lands should not be occupied by the energy production units. Integration of solar cells into buildings, infrastructure, and vehicles is the solution to harvesting energy wherever the food cannot be grown. In Solar Energy and Applications Department of TNO, experts with multidisciplinary backgrounds are working on seamless integration of solar cells. One of the challenges is modelling the system in order to analyse the system behaviour in partial shading when the solar panel is formed in 3D.
In this project, you will be modelling and analyse various solar array configurations, and optimising them for the most efficient and robust layout. Moreover, you will be a part of the team specifying the design rules for the new generation solar cells, and play a role in the implementation of an automated design tool.
What do we require of you?
- You are a master’s student in mathematics, computer science, physics or a relevant engineering field.
- You have affinity with mathematical modelling and optimisation techniques.
- You have enthusiasm for solar energy.
- You enjoy being part of a multi-disciplinary team, but can also work independently.
