Internship | Automated Pavement Inspection

About this position

One application that we work on at the Intelligent Imaging department is the automatic inspection of the condition of Dutch highways. For example, the detection of cracks in the road or determining the absolute wear of the asphalt over time. For these projects, our algorithms have to analyse large amounts of measurements in order to indicate which sections of highway need to be repaired or replaced. During your project, you will research new techniques that will help improve such analyses.

What will be your role?

Since there are many possibilities for a project, a number of research directions are listed below to give you a better understanding on what your internship/graduation project could look like:

  • Pavement segmentation from (front) camera images (for lane width estimation)
  • Automatic classification of crack like structures in pavement
  • Pavement type classification using deep learning

The exact topic of your project will be determined based on your interests and field of study, so please mention these in your application.
