Experienced project manager Nano-instrumentation

Contributing to the world of tomorrow. Envision it. Become a Project Manager at TNO in Delft.

About this position

Our world’s advanced technology production methods rely on extreme vacuum, high energy photons, and ultra-cleanliness. For well over a decade, we have been supporting the world-leading manufacturers of semiconductor equipment around the world with our knowledge of exactly those topics; optics and material lifetime and contamination control, aiming at prevention, analysis and mitigation of contaminants or potential defects at nanoscale. We perform experimental work in our Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory, which houses a wide range of state of the art facilities: in-house built ultraclean vacuum equipment, EUV exposure facilities, XPS surface analysis systems, plasma exposure setups, equipment for nanoparticle detection and much more. One of our main goals is to support our partners worldwide and enable the continuing development of EUV lithography for high-volume manufacturing. The EUV Beam Line 2 (EBL2) forms one of the key systems for our research.

What will be your role?

The majority part of our work is contract-project work. As a project manager in our group you will work the full scope of a project, from initial proposal definition via project execution to result delivery, all in close cooperation with your customer. These projects will mostly involve experimental work one or more of our facilities and set-ups. You will lead small teams of scientific specialists and experimentalists, mainly in the area of physics, surface chemistry, and vacuum systems. Together with your team and in alignment with your customers, you work towards a successful result. You will manage several projects in parallel. We work in a dynamic field, so regular internal and external tuning between projects on resources is a given. Often that means you may need to work to a short deadline to re-align.

You will be part of a professional team of project leaders. Together you challenge yourselves to continuously develop and grow your abilities, so that we all can keep bringing our best. To this end many opportunities also exist: courses, workshops, coaching, intervision, mentoring and job rotation. Also as a department as a whole we work as a team.

What we expect from you

Our ideal candidate would fully recognize themselves in this profile:

  • A BSc or MSc (or PhD) in physics, chemistry, electrical or mechanical engineering, or similar;
  • At least 3 years proven experience in a project management role in a high tech systems environment preferably in the semicon domain.
  • Experience in warm acquisition and writing proposals, you are able to get clear the need behind the customers need, experience with negotiation;
  • Flexibility in your organizational and communication styles and openness to develop your skills further.
  • A structured but pragmatic way of working and a pro-active customer- and result-oriented mindset;
  • People management skills;
