Internship | Graduation in building materials

About this position

Concrete and other stony building materials are important in our society. More sustainable and more durable concrete contribute significantly to a more sustainable building and construction sector and society as a whole. At TNO, we address this topic from three points of view: materials, structural behavior and reliability. The team Materials for Built Environment focusses on development and performance of alternative binders and concrete mixtures, recycling and reuse of stony building materials and complete (prefabricated) concrete elements and conservation & renovation of existing buildings and structures.

What will be your role?

You will contribute to our ongoing knowledge development projects on alternative binders and more sustainable concrete mixtures. The actual contents of your work will depend on both the projects we have at the moment you join us and your own background. They may vary from developing specific measurement / analytical techniques, studying the dissolution and precipitation behavior of precursor raw materials to evaluating performance and durability of hardened novel concretes.

What we expect from you

First of all, an inquiring mind and an enthusiastic young scientist. A background in a relevant discipline, e.g. civil engineering or building technology with a focus on materials science or another scientific discipline with interest in building materials, for example geology or inorganic chemistry. Desire to do experimental laboratory research. Proper English and good writing skills.
