Mechanical Lead Engineer | Delft

What will be your role?

As mechanical lead designer you will work on projects for the design and realization of complex hardware. You support the Systems Engineer in the requirements phase of projects and create conceptual designs. Together with your colleagues you will translate system requirements to create conceptual designs, build experimental setups to demonstrate key aspects, and make detailed designs of full instrument prototypes.

In the detailed design phase you lead a team of several mechanical engineers in addition to your own design work. You make sure you and your team follow proper design way of working for the relevant domain and see to it that the detailed design is seen through all the way to the end. In the MAIT phase you support assembly and testing with your strong conceptual knowledge of the design.

What we expect from you

As a candidate you have:

  • An education as a MSc. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with design in 3D CAD and PLM software, preferably NX and Teamcenter.
  • Experience with analytical tools for structural and thermal analysis (e.g. Ansys, COMSOL, Matlab).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the design of (opto)mechanical systems in either the semiconductor industry or space&science. Experience in both is a plus.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction principles and statically determined design.
  • Detailed knowledge of thermomechanics and the design for ultra stability.
  • Knowledge of the dynamic behaviour of mechanical structures. Basic knowledge of optics and control engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in leading a team of other engineers.
  • Strong analytical skills; you can think in terms of concepts and can understand complex problems and find the essence.
  • Good communication skills and a mastery of the english language, both verbal and written, mastery of the Dutch language is not a requirement, but a preference.
  • A sense of responsibility and taking ownership.

The selection process

Please apply before 18 December 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place in week 1 or 2 of 2023. The second interview round has been scheduled for weeks 3 and 4. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
