Research Engineer Hydrogen

Working on technological breakthroughs for upscaling electrolysis in Europe's largest hydrogen research facility. Can you envision it? Become a Research Engineer Hydrogen at TNO in Petten.

What will be your role?

Renewable hydrogen plays an important role in all energy transition scenarios and is critical in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors. Electrolysis is the technology used to produce renewable hydrogen and sustainable chemicals, and is therefore a key enabling technology. Together with international top players from industry and academia, we accelerate innovation and implementation of water electrolysis and power-2-x. Research in which TNO is at the forefront. What will be your role?
We are looking for research-engineers to join the fast growing Hydrogen team. Among the academics, the team of research-engineers are the ones with the practical know-how. Thanks to you, the scientists can count on reliable and smoothly operating equipment during projects involving the validation of materials and stack components developed by your colleagues and our clients. Your base will be the state-of-the-art test set-ups (PEM, SOE, AEM) in our Faraday lab.

As we are expanding the already impressive lab facilities even further with set ups that go beyond the state-of-the-art, you will contribute to the in house design, build and commissioning. You manage contractors and suppliers, prepare installations, carry out the investigations and collect and process data, possibly together with colleagues, scientists and project leaders. You also provide support in formulating research questions or a research design. You are able to organize your work well and have a critical attitude with respect to evaluation of results. You report results and conclusions in a transparent and insightful way.

What we expect from you

  • A Bachelor’s in (Electro)Chemistry, Physics, Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent.
  • You have an open mind-set and love to learn from your colleagues and share knowledge within the team.
  • You are organized, structured and accurate in executing and reporting experimental research.
  • You are handy at the lab and not scared to pick up tools when it’s needed.
  • You have an eye for safety of yourself and your colleagues and the motivation to obtain a VCA-VOL. Do you already have these? Then that's a good thing
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of the Dutch language or willing to learn Dutch at the highest NT2 level.

The selection process
