Ops-engineer | Utrecht
Contributing to an infrastructure that runs all information about the Netherlands' subsurface. Envision it. Become an Ops engineer at TNO in Utrecht.
What will be your role?
Introduction
Does the groundwater level in Limburg match our drinking water needs? Is the soil in Groningen solid enough to build on? And what soil in the Randstad is suitable for renewable energy storage? Information about the Netherlands' subsurface is essential for important societal issues. One of the main activities of the Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN), part of TNO, is the intake, management, and delivery of data on and models of the Dutch subsurface. As an Ops engineer, you ensure that the infrastructure that runs all these data and models is and remains available, thus contributing to a future-proof Netherlands.
What will be your role?
From home or at our office in Utrecht, you will be working on continuously maintaining and improving the GDN infrastructure. What does a working week include? The daily stand-up with your team in which you discuss the current state of affairs. And, of course, tackling the tasks in Jira. For example, you analyse incidents that you then resolve decisively and in order of urgency. You also clearly document what you’ve done so that others can easily find it. Through system and application management, you continuously monitor the performance and availability of infrastructure. In addition, you take care of the necessary upgrades. If there are projects, for example regarding complex issues such as implementing a new form of Identity Access Management, then you participate in the project team. And if the scrum or DevOps teams using the infrastructure to create and host various software products run into problems, you provide support.
Of course, you don't do all this alone. Together with seven colleagues, you form the Platform Team: a driven team within the Geo Data & IT division. Together, we are responsible for managing, maintaining, monitoring, and improving our own GDN infrastructure. Thanks to the different disciplines on our team, including a database specialist, a security expert, and an architect, we learn a lot from each other. We help each other where necessary. So, if you want to work on complex technical challenges in a fun team and make an impact on tomorrow's world, then this is the job for you.
What we expect from you
You communicate well and keep a cool head, even on hectic days. You have no problem organising your work efficiently and setting the right priorities. You see problems as opportunities. And bottlenecks are there to be solved. You have the drive to continuously improve your knowledge and skills. Moreover, as a true team player, you feel jointly responsible for collectively achieving the desired results.
